The Fastest Man Alive may be known for his quickness but you’re going to want to take your time and enjoy these classic stories about the Scarlet Speedster. Here are some of my favorite Flash stories for you to speed your way through.
- The Trial of the Flash- This two-year arc sees Barry Aleen on trial for the murder of the evil speedster Zoom. It’s an emotional gauntlet full of twists and turns that will have you trying to figure out what’s going on all the way to the last panel
- The Return of Barry Allen- Barry Allen is back from the dead, but something is not right. It’s up to Wally West and Jay Garrick to figure out what’s wrong. This one will get you feeling nice and tense.
- Born to Run– Think of this as Wally West: A retrospective. After Barry Allen dies in Crisis, Wally takes up his mantle and reflects on all the things that have transpired to turn him into The Flash.
- The Flash: Rebirth– This is a different Rebirth from the line-wide reboot DC would launch a decade later. This Rebirth is about the return of Barry Allen following the events of Final Crisis. It’s steeped in The Flash’s history, so this is not one for newbies.
- Flashpoint– Don’t let the disastrous New 52 initiative that came afterwards keep you from reading one of the best Flash stories ever written. The Flash goes back in time and saves a life and creates a brand-new timeline that is super dark.
- Lightning Strikes Twice- This is the first arc of the line-wide Rebirth reboot and reintroduces Wally West to the modern canon. A great starting point for the current iteration of the Flash and one with far-reaching implications for the whole DC universe.
- Rogue War- I love stories about The Flash’s rogues and this one pits them against one another with The Flash caught in the middle. Great action in this one.
- Terminal Velocity– An excellent Wally West story that enriches his relationships with his fellow speedsters and introduces The Speed Force that gives him his powers. The best arc of Marc Waid’s run.
- Wonderland- The first arc of Geoff John’s Flash run. This arc is fun with The Flash ending up in a mirror version of Keystone City, but its really on the list as a starting point for you to binge through all of John’s iconic run.
- Lightning in a Bottle- This is the first story featuring Bart Allen as the Flash and sees him adjusting to his new role. Another great jumping-on point for new readers that aren’t as familiar with the former Kid Flash’s tenure as the Scarlet Speedster.
