Time is both an immutable universal constant and a completely arbitrary human construct. To celebrate this paradox I thought I would share with you some of my favorite quotes about Time.
1.“I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo.
“So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.” ― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring
2.“Time is a game played beautifully by children.”
― Heraclitus, Fragments
3.“The timeless in you is aware of life’s timelessness. And knows that yesterday is but today’s memory and tomorrow is today’s dream.” ― Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet
4.“My past is everything I failed to be.”
― Fernando Pessoa, The Book of Disquiet
5.“Time goes faster the more hollow it is. Lives with no meaning go straight past you, like trains that don’t stop at your station.” ― Carlos Ruiz Zafón, The Shadow of the Wind
6.Dost thou love life? Then do not squander time, for that’s the stuff life is made of.-BENJAMIN FRANKLIN, Poor Richard’s Almanac
7.Time is the longest distance between two places. ~Tennessee Williams
8.Time is what we want most, but… what we use worst. ~William Penn
9.Well, we think that time “passes,” flows past us, but what if it is we who move forward, from past to future, always discovering the new? It would be a little like reading a book, you see. The book is all there, all at once, between its covers. But if you want to read the story and understand it, you must begin with the first page, and go forward, always in order. So the universe would be a very great book, and we would be very small readers.- URSULA K. LE GUIN, The Dispossessed
10.“Time is too slow for those who wait, too swift for those who fear, too long for those who grieve, too short for those who rejoice, but for those who love, time is eternity.” ― Henry van Dyke
